Position Summary
A well-established fine jewelry retailer is seeking an Experienced Bench Jeweler to join their busy workshop team. This role requires exceptional craftsmanship, strong bench skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and thrives in a collaborative setting, producing quality work while meeting deadlines.
This position plays a critical role in supporting daily production, customer repairs, and special orders. While the jeweler must be capable of performing all aspects of jewelry repair and finishing, they will work alongside other jewelers who assist with different stages of the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Jewelry Production & Repair
- Set diamonds and gemstones in prong, channel, bezel, and pavé styles with speed and precision.
- Perform prong rebuilding, soldering, sizing, and advanced repairs.
- Utilize a laser welder and bench microscope for precision work.
- Assist with various stages of jewelry production as needed, while also collaborating with other jewelers who may prepare castings or support early-stage work.
- Efficiency & Quality Control
- Maintain a strong balance of speed and quality in a fast-paced environment.
- Manage workload to meet due dates and prioritize time-sensitive jobs (e.g., engagement rings).
- Consistently deliver work that meets the store’s high standards and protects its reputation.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with fellow jewelers and sales staff, responding professionally to requests and inquiries.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive workshop culture.
- Flexibly assist other stages of production when needed to keep jobs on schedule.
- Reliability & Integrity
- Arrive consistently and reliably, especially during peak business seasons.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards, protecting the trust and integrity of the workshop.
- Take ownership of critical jobs, ensuring deadlines are honored and customer expectations are met.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in bench jeweler techniques, including stone setting, repair, and finishing.
- Strong experience with prong, bezel, channel, and pavé setting.
- Skilled in the use of a laser welder and bench microscope.
- Ability to balance efficiency with craftsmanship in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a busy retail shop.
- Proven reliability, trustworthiness, and commitment to deadlines.
Education and Experience
- 7+ years of experience as an experienced bench jeweler with strong proficiency in advanced jewelry techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in high-volume production and complex repair work.
- Formal jeweler training or certification (GIA or equivalent) is a plus.
Working Conditions / Environment
- Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (40 hours/week). Flexibility required during peak times (holidays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, store events).
- Workplace: Onsite in a busy, collaborative workshop environment.
